Powder Coating Gloss Levels

Gloss Levels

Gloss levels vary from system to system with each powder manufacturer offering a range of grades off the shelf. We can offer a full range of gloss finishes to match most requirements.

Gloss levels are generally prescribed as detailed below although they can be specified to tighter degrees:

  • Full Gloss 90%
  • Semi Gloss 60%
  • Satin 30%
  • Matt 15%

Whilst your application could well specify the gloss level required (on the drawing or customer specification etc) we are always happy to discuss the available options which are typically dependent on the scope of the manufacturers paint range. For further information, please ask one of our staff.

Some general guidance on factors relating to choosing an appropriate gloss level is detailed below.

Class 1 Finishes

are generally applied to items such as front panels on server racks, instrument control panels and other items that are readily seen with the eye. Here the requirement for a consistent gloss level across an item as well as between components & batches is important. If you require a high level of finish consistency (both gloss levels and texture, colour, thickness etc) you would generally specify the need for a Class 1 Finish on your order.

Gloss Retention

is an important factor for outdoor components such as signage and street furniture as well as any other item exposed to ultra-violet sunshine. Generally finishes that require good or better UV stability are coated with a polyester finish.

If you have a particular requirement regarding your gloss finish please feel free to ask.
